how do I know if I’m being coercively controlled?

  1. Your Autonomy is Shrinking (it’s a slow erosion of independence – have you stopped doing things your enjoyed? do you avoid certain things because they will “cause problems”?)
  2. You Feel Afraid of their Reactions (you fear their anger, disappointment, sulking, withdrawal, accusations – if you are consistently worrying about their reactions and modifying your behaviour… or feel like you’re “walking on eggshells”)
  3. They use Guilt to Control you (it’s one of the primary tools)
  4. Your Self Esteem has Declined (they chip away at self worth)
  5. You Feel Confused or “Foggy” (many victims feel that their mind “isn’t their own anymore”)
  6. The Rewrite your Reality (they tell your your over-reacting or deny things they clearly said or did)
  7. There are Double Standards (the imbalance in intentional – their feelings matter, yours do not)
  8. You’re Always Trying to Keep the Peace (you feel like you’re trying to survive their moods and anticipate changes constantly)
  9. You Feel less like your Real Self (would the old version of yourself recognize you?)
